The talk analyzes the historical dynamics of Chinese society dominated by cycles of unification and fragmentation of Chinese empires. The rise of modern China is shown to be a unified phase of China. The achievements and challenges faced by China are discussed and the future prospects of China’s rise is briefly summarized.

Dr Belal Ehsan Baaquie
Dr Belal Ehsan Baaquie trained as a theoretical physicist at Caltech (BS) and Cornell University (PhD), specializing in quantum field theory. He has pioneered the application of quantum mathematics to economics and finance and has written books and numerous research papers on the subject. He has also written books on science and physics for undergraduates. Over the years he has extended his research interests to the social sciences including religion, history and politics. Dr. Baaquie is an editor of the journal China and the World, and has written many articles — and given talks – on China.

Dr Wang Qinghai
Dr Wang Qing-hai was born in China. He graduated from the University of Science and Technology of China with a bachelor and a master degrees in theoretical physics. He obtained his PhD in physics from Washington University in St. Louis, USA. He is currently a Senior Lecturer in National University of Singapore. His main research areas are quantum mechanics, mathematical physics, and gravity. He is interested in history and ancient Chinese literature.
