About Perak Academy
We are an independent, privately-funded organization registered on 19 November 2002 as a company limited by guarantee under the Companies Act, 1965 of Malaysia.
Our primary objective is to promote interest in the state of Perak by encouraging discussion, scholarship and research.
We are doing this in a number of ways:
- Organising the popular “Perak Lectures” series of talks for our Members and the public. We regularly present speakers of national and international standing on subjects which encourage and provoke discussion and debate. For a complete list of our speakers, please click the link to Perak Lectures.
- Supporting research and scholarship. We welcome and host visiting scholars from local and overseas institutions who visit Perak as part of their studies and research. We provide them with the facilities of our office and introduce them to local contacts and other resources. We have also extended recognition to a number of scholars who have distinguished themselves in academic endeavours, and individuals who have made significant contributions in their fields of interest and work. They are honoured as Fellows of Perak Academy or Research Fellows of Perak Academy.
- Publishing books which promote a better understanding of the history of this country, in particular Ipoh and Perak. Please click Publications for a list of titles available.
- Working with other institutions on projects which make new contributions to scholarship and research, e.g. our collaboration with Perak Heritage Society on a Perak Oral History Project.
We depend largely on the goodwill and generosity of our Governors, Members, friends and well-wishers for funds and facilities to carry out our activities and projects.
