SYNOPSIS

ZainahZainah Anwar will speak about the use of Islam as a source of law and public policy in Muslim countries and its challenges within the context of democracy, human rights and women’s rights. The talk includes women’s rights, children’s rights, freedom of religion, and the larger issue of conflict between civil and syariah laws. She will argue for the possibility and necessity for equality and justice in Islam and for  reform in how Islam is understood and practiced.
